The Avro Lancaster B. Mk.III "Dambusters" is an iconic World War II aircraft celebrated for its daring and historic role in Operation Chastise.

This specialized variant of the Lancaster, developed by the British Royal Air Force's No. 617 Squadron, was designed for a unique and audacious mission: the targeted destruction of German dams in the industrial heartland of the Ruhr Valley.

The "Dambusters" mission, which took place on the night of May 16-17, 1943, involved a squadron of specially modified Lancasters equipped with "Upkeep" bouncing bombs designed by engineer Barnes Wallis.

These cylindrical bombs were ingeniously designed to skip across the water and then strike the dam, sinking to a predetermined depth before exploding, causing significant damage to the dams' structures.
